At TD Environmental Services, we’re no strangers to tackling invasive plants, and our recent bamboo removal project was no exception. This job presented unique challenges due to the aggressive nature of the bamboo species involved, but we delivered a comprehensive solution that restored the client’s garden.
The Challenge: Managing an Invasive Running Bamboo Species
The client’s garden was overrun by a running variety of bamboo, known for its rapid and extensive spread. Unlike clumping bamboo, which remains more localized, running bamboo can travel across a property, creating significant challenges for homeowners. In this case, the bamboo had spread throughout the garden, making it impossible for the client to maintain or enjoy their outdoor space.

Our Solution: Comprehensive Bamboo Removal
To address the issue, our team identified that the bamboo had contaminated the soil extensively. The most effective solution was to excavate and remove the affected soil to eliminate the plant’s invasive root system. Over the course of the project, approximately 50 tons of soil contaminated with bamboo roots were carefully removed and disposed of responsibly.
Once the excavation was complete, we replaced the removed soil with high-quality topsoil, ensuring the ground was ready for the next stage of the garden’s transformation. The client plans to have the area turfed in the new year, reclaiming their outdoor space as a usable and enjoyable environment.

The Outcome: A Garden Restored
The client was thrilled with the results. By thoroughly addressing the root cause of the bamboo’s spread, we ensured that the issue would not recur, providing peace of mind and a blank canvas for the garden’s redesign. With fresh topsoil in place, the area is primed for turfing and will soon become a vibrant, green space once more.
