Overgrown Ivy destroys section of established Leylandii hedgerow
This Leylandii hedge was well-established in the customer’s garden, and had been trimmed regularly to create a compact and well-kept boundary hedge.
Unfortunately, Ivy had taken hold at the base, and left unchecked had effectively engulfed a section of the hedge. Removal of just the Ivy would result in branches and twigs of the Leylandii being exposed, with no hope of fresh growth from the bare wood. Therefore, if the Ivy was to be removed the only option was to remove a whole section of the hedgerow with it, and replant with new trees of the same variety to fill the gap.
The individual Ivy-covered trees were removed along with the stumps/roots in preparation for the planting of the new section of the hedge.
Trees sourced & planted by T.D Environmental Services
Pot-grown Leylandii of a reasonable size were planted at closer intervals than normal to help create a faster screen. Already a quick-growing species, with the right encouragement a new section of hedgerow can be successfully restored in a relatively short space of time. We will be monitoring the growth over the next couple of years, and if necessary training the new growth to fill in any gaps.
